    Unfired pressure vessels, design by rule, design by analysis, theory of thin-walled pressure vessels; cylindrical shells, spherical shells, theory of thick-walled pressure vessels; thick cylinder, Lame’s theory, theories of elastic failure, design criteria; maximum allowable working pressure, material allowable stress, weld joint efficiency, corrosion allowance, numerical analysis method.

2 Stresses in pressure vessels Introduction of shell theory. Theory of thin shell and thick shell. Design of theoretical seamless vessels.

4 Stress/ failure theories Theories of elastic failure, such as the maximum distortion energy criterion
5 Load categories PV under thermal and pressure loading conditions
