5. Specific course information
- brief description of the content of the course (catalog description)
Inclusive Design is a human-centered approach that aims to develop products, services, systems, environments, and policies accessible, understandable, and usable by the widest possible range of people, regardless of age, ability, culture, language, socioeconomic status, or circumstances. It views diversity as a source of innovation rather than a limitation and focuses on designing with people, not just for them. This project-based course introduces students to principles and methods of Inclusive Design while encouraging them to tackle real-world global problems. Throughout the semester, students work in multidisciplinary teams to identify underserved populations, understand barriers and exclusion mechanisms, co-create innovative solutions, prototype ideas, assess inclusivity, and develop implementation plans. The course combines concepts from Inclusive Design, Universal Design, Accessibility, Human-Centered Design, Design Thinking, Systems Thinking, Social Innovation, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Innovation and Entrepreneurship. - prerequisites or co-requisites
