    Fundamental of automotive and aircraft engines: Engine types, alternatives to air breathing combustion engines, Fuels, chemical thermodynamics, Chemical thermodynamics, Basics of combustion, Pollutant formation. Unsteady-flow engines: Basic operating principles, design and performance parameters, Using P-V and T-s diagrams, Ideal cycle analysis, non-ideal cycle analysis, Combustion in engines: knock; ignition, misfire; emissions. Steady-flow engines: Thrust and aircraft range; compressible flow, Ideal performance of turbojets and turbofans, non-ideal performance, hypersonic propulsion.
