    Cylindrical dielectric waveguides and propagating conditions; structure and types of optical fiber; optical fiber parameters; optical fiber production; optical cable types; signal degradations; attenuation and dispersion in fiber link; optical transmitters: light emitting diodes and laser diodes; optical receivers: photo detectors; optical repeaters and amplifiers; link budget calculation; wavelength multiplexing in optical link system; introduction to FTTX and modern systems.
