1 Load Curve & Power System Demand Load curve characteristics, base load and peak load concepts, load factor, diversity factor, and demand analysis in power systems. Plot and analyze sample load curves; discussion on real system demand behavior.
2 Diesel Power Plant & Renewable Energy Systems Diesel power plant working principle, components, performance, applications; overview of renewable energy sources including solar, wind, biomass, and geothermal; basic grid integration concepts. Case study of standby diesel generator; comparison of diesel and renewable energy systems.
Nuclear Power Plant Nuclear fission process, reactor types, main components, energy conversion system, and safety principles in nuclear power generation. Reactor system diagram analysis and discussion of nuclear safety systems.
4 Steam, Gas, and Combined Cycle Power Plants Rankine cycle (steam), Brayton cycle (gas turbine), combined cycle integration, boiler–turbine–condenser system, and efficiency comparison. Thermal cycle diagram analysis and efficiency comparison exercises.
5 Steam and Gas Power Plant Cycle Calculation Thermodynamic calculations of Rankine and Brayton cycles, efficiency evaluation, work ratio, and performance parameters. Numerical problem solving on cycle efficiency and power output.
6 Combined Cycle Power Plant Performance Analysis Gas turbine–steam turbine integration, heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), efficiency improvement, and performance evaluation. System performance calculation and comparative analysis.
7 Renewable Energy Integration in Modern Power Systems Integration of renewable energy sources into power grids, intermittency issues, grid stability, and evaluation of renewable penetration. Case study on renewable integration in modern grids.
8 Types of Substation Classification of substations: transmission, distribution, step-up and step-down substations; AIS and GIS substation overview. Substation type classification mapping and schematic review.
9 Substation Equipment & Layout Design Circuit breaker, disconnecting switch, lightning arrester, current transformer (CT), voltage transformer (VT), and transformer fundamentals; basic layout design principles. Equipment identification and functional mapping; basic layout interpretation.
10 Substation Planning, Selection & Management Substation planning criteria, AIS/GIS layout selection, busbar schemes, single line diagrams, and spatial arrangement design considerations. Substation layout drawing interpretation and design discussion.
11 Lightning Protection & Grounding Systems Lightning protection principles, shielding methods, lightning arresters, grounding system design, step and touch voltage concepts. Grounding and fault current calculation exercises.
12 Substation Automation Systems Substation automation architecture, SCADA systems, digital protection relays, communication systems, and smart grid integration. Automation system diagram analysis and case study.
13 Substation Safety Engineering Electrical safety principles, arc flash hazards, clearance distances, operational safety procedures, and maintenance safety. Safety scenario analysis and hazard identification exercises.
14 Substation Design & Practice I Preliminary substation design, equipment sizing, single line diagram development, and layout planning fundamentals. Design workshop: basic substation layout drafting.
15 Substation Design & Practice II Final substation design integration including grounding, protection coordination, layout optimization, and system validation. Final project presentation and design review.
